As I spent my first week as a graduate, working hard to prepare for summer activities, it did not sink in until today (Saturday 5/24) that…I…was…done. No more school, as least at this level and at my current career plan. One cannot help but reflect on the years it took to get through and the effort that at times seemed so overwhelming. After this self reflection, I came to one conclusion. I’m not ready to be done!

Well, let me back off that statement to say that I AM happy and thankful that I have reached this milestone at last. However, being ready for it is a different story. Where am I going to work? To where is God calling me? Am I ready for the unfamiliar, the uncertain and the challenge of starting something completely new?

The fact is that life is full of these situations which raise these questions. And it is fair to ask them, yet not allow them to have paralyzing effects. Smoke Rise is a great church and an awesome place to work. I have enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy) my time here with this staff, this congregation and of course, this youth group. To remain in a comfortable place, however, just for the sake of being comfortable, is not the vision for a life called into ministry.

Let me pause and say that since “every member a minister” is a mantra of this church, then we are all called to ministry, in varying degrees. Therefore, the statement above, about remaining comfortable, applies to us all. It stinks sometimes, but life beckons us forward, regardless of age, position, status or spiritual maturity. This is my reality today and into tomorrow.

I do hope that the future does not scare you, as the unknown is full of fear and doubt. The future, however, is also filled with promise and providence in life. Take some time to interact with the Bible and see how Moses, David and Joshua dealt with the unknown. Pray for the wisdom of those who have come before you and see how your life will unfold.

Enjoy the journey.

Awesomeness Abounding!
